Silly Time
Why Being A Silly Parent is Good For Your Kids
I talk a lot about having a calm, confident and connected bedtime routine. However, adding energy and dynamics to their routine is also crucial for a good night’s sleep. I like to incorporate this in a consistent and predictable way through ‘Silly Time’ as often discussed by Lyndsey Hookway.
Parenting can be tiring and overwhelming, but mixing it up by being silly and having some fun with your children can have huge benefits for both you and your little ones.
Why should you implement Silly Time:
Use up that energy: Silly time can be the perfect opportunity to use up their energy at the end of the day before you try to get them to wind down.
It Builds Connection: Children crave time and special moments with their parents. Implementing Silly Time will give you focused time with your little one, which will help build a strong connection.
How to implement Silly Time:
I recommend implementing Silly Time after your child’s evening meal. Some ideas include crawling/running around the house, jumping, sports, dance, etc.
You’ll need to work in some calm down time (around 20 min) after Silly Time before starting their bedtime routine. Appropriately stimulated children will be tired and ready for bed, which means it will be easier for you to get them into bed!
Think of Silly Time not as ‘another thing’ you need to do but something fun that will make you smile and laugh and that your child/children will love as well.
